The social issues of today has changed the course of architecture. Once \u201cgood\u201d architecture created \u00a0from untouched sites and endless budgets; now, the trend is shifting more towards affordable and sustainable alternatives, such as adaptive reuse.<\/p>\n

At \u00a0this year\u2019s \u00a0Venice Architecture Biennale, the Netherland\u00a0<\/span>Petra Blaisse<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and her team have filled their space with a series of shimmering pink and silver curtains, hung on motorized frames that divide the expansive galleries into smaller spaces. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Dutch \u00a0pavilion\u2019s interior changes every five minutes–accompanied by a soft whirr, transforming \u00a0the 1954 vacant building of the \u00a0pavilion throughout the entire length of the Biennale.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cWe are not hanging\u00a0<\/span>Objets d\u2019Art<\/em>, exhibit works or stage events,\u201d says\u00a0Petra Blaisse, the textile designer and frequent Rem Koolhaas-collaborator behind\u00a0<\/span>Re-set<\/em>. \u201cWe are responding to the vacant architecture itself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than stage an exhibition, like most other countries at the Biennale, Blaisse with the swishing of fabric–demonstrated how relatively low-cost, low-impact architectural interventions can re-animate abandoned spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Re-set is the sequel to the Dutch submission to the International Architecture Exhibition in 2010, titled\u00a0<\/span>Vacant NL,<\/a> a presentation by the\u00a0<\/span>Netherlands Architecture Institute\u00a0(NAI)<\/a> and Rietveld Landscape that shed light on the huge amount and enormous potential of disused buildings in\u00a0the Netherlands.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
