Probably it is. That is why today we are going to talk about Runway to Green!
Runway to Green is a fund-raising model in the U.S. that is bringing together “la crème de la crème” of the fashion industry into one mission; to help raise awareness and funds about the environment.
Gucci, Balenciaga, Prada, Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Manolo Blahnik, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch, Derek Lam, Marchesa, Marni, Michael Kors, Rachel Roy, Rag & Bone, Thakoon, Osklen, Pringle of Scotland, Timex80 and Tommy Hilfiger were called to create or dedicate an exclusive fashion item from their Fall 2011 collection as part of the Runway to Green collection.
Everybody agreed but first made a commitment; to investigate sustainable manufacturing practices putted forward in the Clean by Design initiative from the NRDC.
The Runway to Green collection will be featured in a fashion show on March 29, 2011 at Rockefeller Center in New York City and it will be styled by Vogue‘s Tonne Goodman and Tabitha Simmons. At the same time, the second annual live auction by Christie’s Bid to Save the Earth is going to take place.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of these collection items will go to the Alliance for Climate Protection, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign.
We, as yiuco thinkers, like it a lot.
And what we can do is to wait until the 29th of March and at the same time hope that this kind of project will become inspiration for more sustainable fashion to come!
